post- production

editing my frames

After drawing the frames, I had to make the timings of them match up. I referenced the storyboards and used a calculator to work out how many of them I needed to repeat. I decided on 12 FPS and animated on 3's, which is pretty low but fits the animatic style I ended up going for. A faster pace would be too quick for this since there isn't enough frames. This process was new to me since I haven't thought too much about FPS yet and I would like to get better at timing in my animation, which from my primary research, I know to be key to making movements feel realistic.

I used Flipa Clip's copy and paste buttons to repeat frames.

I then transferred the animation from my tablet to my laptop and put it on a timeline with a song in Resolve. I chose a short clip from Arthur Brown's 'Fire'. I had been listening to this song whilst making storyboards and thought its melody and lyrics of "You're gonna burn" sort of reflected the self-harming habits I made my project about. I also like this choice because it's an older song (from 1968), which also harks back to Audrey's 'alt' idea and the more indie music bands on the posters.

I really would have liked to have made some more interesting audio effects or editing and add some sound effects/foley, but by this stage, I was really running out of time and just wanted to be done with it. I think adding the music backing made this more like a micro music video or an animation meme video. Which I don't dislike but the finished project has strayed very far away from the original intent.
